- Technique ≠ Style:
- Style is the individual’s unique pattern of performing a skill.
- Even a champion’s technique may not represent the ideal model to emulate.
2. Boxing Stance and Footwork
Footwork Types:
- Plain steps
- Pivots / Side-steps
- Pendulum steps
- Diagonal steps
3. Punches
Punches are categorized by type and target area (head or body), and can be thrown with either hand.
Types of Punches:
- Straight Punches
- Left: to head / to body
- Right: to head / to body
- Uppercuts
- Left: to head / to body
- Right: to head / to body
- Hooks
- Left: to head / to body
- Right: to head / to body
- Combination punching and punching while moving are also essential components of offensive technique.

5. Counterpunching
- Direct Counter: Immediate offensive response without prior defense.
- Counter-attack: Offensive action executed after a defensive maneuver.
6. Fighting Distances
- Long Distance: One or more steps away from the opponent.
- Medium Distance: Within punching range.
- Short Distance: In physical contact with the opponent.
7. Feinting and Drawing
Used to deceive or provoke reactions from the opponent.
- Feinting methods:
- With the arms
- With the upper body and eyes
- With the feet
- Drawing: Intentionally creating openings to lure the opponent into attacking.
8. Training Methods
Without Gloves:
- School Boxing: Fundamental drills focusing on form and technique.
- Shadow Boxing: Practicing punches, footwork, and defense without a partner.
With Gloves:
